Gretchen Schmaltz has a degree in Deaf Education. She worked as an interpreter doing government work before deciding to follow her teaching background into educational interpreting. Gretchen currently works at Mantua Elementary School in Fairfax, VA in addition to being a photographer and rock-climbing instructor. Her involvement with Nana Star combines two of her passions: education and children's literature.
Yvette d'Ornano is originally from a farm in Chattanooga, TN, where she was home-schooled from third to twelfth grade. Yvette moved to Virginia in 2004 to manage a farm and direct the equestrian program for a girls' summer camp. She graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in 2007 and is now pursuing a BS in biology at George Mason University. Yvette currently works as an interpreter for Fairfax County Public Schools. She has been interpreting professionally since the fall of 2001, after receiving a certificate of interpreting from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
